I. Background
Every year many international students are taking English 1F (Composition) and English 2F (Argumentation & Analysis) writing courses. Since international students often encounter extraordinary difficulties in writing, it is necessary to design a different syllabus and adopt special teaching methods to meet their needs.
As an encouragement and appraisal to the students' performance in writing courses, a writing competition especially organized for international students will be a very good complementary to teaching methods.
In 2008, we had the first international students writing competition, and it turned out to be a success, with both students' active participation and professors' great support. The winners' essays were also evaluated by judges as high-qualified.
In 2009, we will have the second competition to attract more international students to participate and get awarded.
