This website serves the students who register English 1F and English 2F, two compulsory courses provided by English Department of College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, C. W. Post Campus, Long Island University for international freshmen students to develop academic writing skills.
Eng1F is an introduction to and development of critical and analytic writing/reading/writing skills through class discussion of student work and selected texts. It provides an intensive instruction in techniques for the planning, drafting, revising, and editing of college-level expository essays. Meanwhile, it also introduces students to using the various research options available at the library. ENG2F builds on the work of Eng1F. It emphasizes expository and analytic writing and longer papers. Special attention will be given to reading, library skills, and research methods.
With the consideration of international students' cultural background and various experiences in the United States of America, Eng1F and Eng2F taught by Dr. Hong Ai Bai choose culture as the focus of reading and writing to develop students' critical and analytic writing skills in the preparation for academic tasks in their major study. She establishes this website to assist both her teaching and her international students who need extra help and a venu for them to exchange their critical readings and writings.
Dr. Hong Ai Bai has a doctoral degree in English linguistics and a master's degree in applied linguistics. She is fluent in Chinese, Korean and English and she also knows Japanese and French. Her multiple language proficiency and experience in teaching international students brings her better understanding to their writings as well as their problems.
