Description: The Garden City, Stewart Line Depot. Located on the
Hempstead Branch
of the LIRR.
Photograph taken a few years after it opened in 1873. Built by Alexander T.
Stewart, merchant prince. Ornamental brickwork, mansard-crowned tower with cast-iron
roof crest. Demolished in 1898 to make room for new
depot.
