Cylindrical Coordinates:Cones,Cylinders,and More

Here is a link to a website which will graph objects in cylindrical coordinates. This should open in a new window or tab, depending on your current browser's defaults. Toggle between the windows and do the following exercises:

Examples with cones

  1. Set t min to 0, t max to 1 (be sure to hit GRAPH after changing)
  2. Set s min to 0, s max to pi
  3. Set t min to -1, t max to 0 and s min to 0, s max to pi

Example with cylinders

  1. Replace t in the parameter box for r with a constant of 1 rather than parameter t
  2. Set s min to 0, s max to 2*pi

Other possibilities: Find the GALLERY button and spend some time exploring.(Be sure to notice the arrows which let you rotate images.)
